I sat alone,
thinking about you
when I sensed you
kneeling in front of me.
My response was like Peter’s:
“Lord, it is I who should…”
but I saw the joy on your face.
Jesus, you are divine,
yet you call yourself
my brother
and kneel before me,
a Joyful Servant.
I want to receive
this gift from you.
Jesus, I want be like you.
Teach me to kneel
in joy with you
before all others.
——
When he had finished washing their feet,
he put on his clothes and returned to his place.
“Do you understand what I have done for you?”
he asked them. “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher,
have washed your feet,
you also should wash one another’s feet.”
