In returning to Me and resting you shall be saved;
in quietness and confident trust is your strength.
But you were not willing. You said, ‘No, we will flee on horses…
A thousand of you will flee at the threat of one…
Therefore the Lord waits and longs to be gracious to you,
He waits on high to have compassion on you.
Isaiah 30:15-18 (AMP)
“Return,”
You call.
You invite. You plead.
But in my unchecked mind,
the lone rider
has become an army of thousands.
I armor up, ride reckless,
heedless, self-reliant
away.
“Return and rest,”
You call.
But I refuse.
I am strong. I am sure.
I am crazed.
“Return. Rest. Receive,”
You call again.
“I long to rise up
to show you compassion,”
you sing.
I stumble. Fall. Break. Fail.
“Return. Rest. Receive.”
Still you call.
“My arms are wide open
with mercy, with help, with love. Return.”

Hello Juanita. I rose early this morning (Australian time) after an un restfull night – my husband is chronically ill and had a disturbed night and I was feeling sorry for myself. I have just spent some time doing study 5 in “Praying the Psalms” and realised I have so much for which to be grateful. Then I searched out your blog and have been so blessed by the picture of resting in God and not relying constantly on my own strength. I have realised afresh that He does LONG for us to rely on His compassion. Thankyou for your words of wisdom

Thank you Jennifer for your comment. It brought tears to my eyes to read your words that God “does long for us to rely on His compassion.” It is such a surprising, powerful and tender truth. It helps to keep hearing it from the text and from each other. Bless you as you persevere in returning over and over again to this rest.
